Caenorhabditis elegans is a free-livin (nae parasitic), transparent nematode (roondwirm), aboot 1 mm in lenth,[3] that lives in temperate sile environs. The name is a blend o the Greek caeno- (recent), rhabditis (rod-lik)[4] an Laitin elegans (elegant). In 1900, Maupas ineetially named it Rhabditides elegans, Osche placed it in the subgenus Caenorhabditis in 1952, an in 1955, Dougherty raised it tae the status o genus.[5]
